Ambulance Victoria shows Pride at Midsumma

More than 50 Ambulance Victoria (AV) employees, volunteers, friends and family proudly joined the 2024 Midsumma Pride March to support and celebrate our LGBTIQA+ community.
Paramedic Sherlyn Hii was among more than 7000 people who braved the high temperatures to march and show her support for love, diversity, and inclusivity.

“It was tempting to stay at home and out of this horrid heat, but I felt like it was important to show my support and say ‘yaasss’ for sexual and gender diversity,” Sherlyn said.
“Many people in this community suffer with depression because they feel shame about who they are. As a health professional, and a letter person, I just want to tell them that they are beautiful and worthy of love.
“Pride means having the courage to be your authentic self. No shame, and no pretences.”

Paramedic Jason He said he marched to support his AV colleagues and the wider community.
“It helps to send a message that AV as an emergency service is aiming to provide a safe and respectful environment towards the LGBTIQA+ group when they need us,” Jason said.
“Don’t be afraid to identify yourself, and you are who you are.
“As an emergency service, we are always here to provide non-judgemental assistance when you need it.”
The Midsumma Pride March is held every summer along Fitzroy St, St Kilda, to celebrate solidarity in gender and sexuality diversity.
