Climate action

Our emissions reduction plan sets our path to implement and report on our actions as we become a net zero organisation.  Our vision is a phased transition across AV’s key emissions from road vehicles, building energy usage, and air ambulance services.

AV has committed to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2045.

As progress towards our commitment, in 2020 we signed onto a renewable energy agreement for some of our larger locations and in 2022 we converted remaining sites on the State Purchase Contract to 100% GreenPower®.

Corporate and suitable response vehicles are in the process of being transitioned to hybrid vehicles and in 2023 the first fully electric vehicles will join our corporate fleet. We continue to explore opportunities to further reduce our fleet emissions on our path to a net zero emission future.

We are also planning for different Victorian climate futures, using climate risk assessment methods and the development of an AV Climate Adaptation Action Plan.  Our focus will ensure AV is a climate-resilient ambulance service.

Infrastructure asset management

We are focused on assessment of our infrastructure footprint and will retrofit where possible, building sustainability into our Branch Design Guidelines using Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) principles.  We also continually review our asset disposal method to identify social and environmental contribution opportunities.

Waste lifecycle

While we comply with government waste approaches, we are also implementing improvements to our waste management methods. Our Sustainability Champions are engaged and growing in action to support our social and environmental commitments at the local level.
