When someone nearby has a cardiac arrest, the GoodSAM app alerts registered responders to help before the ambulance arrives.
How does GoodSAM work?
- When someone calls Triple Zero (000) for a cardiac arrest, the GoodSAM app sends an alert to nearby responders.

- The responder gets the location of the patient and the nearest AED.

- The responder can start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use the automated external defibrillator (AED) if needed, while the ambulance is on its way.

Why is it important?
- Every minute without CPR or defibrillation lowers the chance of survival by 10 per cent.

- Early help from responders can greatly increase survival rates.

How to get involved
- Download the GoodSAM app.
 - Sign up to be a responder.
 - Make sure your “report on duty” setting is on in the app.

Safety tips for responders
- Always think about your own safety first.

- If you feel unsafe, wait for emergency services to arrive.
