The Ambulance Victoria Pipes and Drums are composed of paramedics and other community members.
Their role is to:
- Represent Ambulance Victoria (AV).
- Support AV by performing at government programs and public events.
They play at festivals, balls, opening of new branches, formal functions, and ceremonial events.
AV Pipes and Drums tartan
Our tartan was commissioned for design by Betty Johnston of the House of Tartans in 2009, and was registered in the official Scottish Register of Tartans on 8 February 2010.
The citation in the register reads:
- Red is symbolic of the true Maltese cross, a recognised age-old symbol which portrays humanitarian relief and medical care, forming the centre pivot of the sett.
- Black is not a colour but is classified as a hue and therefore depicts neutrality, which officers project at all times when performing their duties within the community.
- White portrays the white stars depicted on the Victoria State's arms and has further significance for Australia, representing the Southern Cross constellation, a unique feature of the Southern Hemisphere.
- Two yellow lines represent modern mobility of service, which provides accident and emergency treatment support to victims and portrays dedication to Ambulance service members.
- Dark blue represents uniform and symbolically represents blue on Victoria State's arms.
- Light blue which forms the circle backdrop badge, is symbolic of unbroken continuous service provided to the people of Victoria.
