When someone experiences a cardiac arrest, receiving a shock from a defibrillator (AED) before paramedics arrive can more than double their chance of survival.
This October, Ambulance Victoria’s Shocktober campaign is encouraging all Victorians to learn the lifesaving skills to respond to cardiac arrest – including how to perform CPR and use an AED.

With your help, we want more people in our communities to recognise cardiac arrest, act quickly and have the confidence to step in when every minute counts.
Minutes matter
By building awareness of CPR, AED use and the confidence to take action, we can help ensure everyone has the best possible chance of survival. We know if a patient receives CPR and a shock from a public AED they are more than twice as likely to survive a cardiac arrest.
By spreading the Shocktober message, we can help more Victorians build the skills and confidence to save a life and give every heart a chance.

Host a Call Push Shock session
Hold a Call Push Shock session during October in your workplace or home.
Gather some work colleagues, family or friends and practise your CPR skills using one of our free Call Push Shock kits that can be delivered to your workplace or home. You will only need 20 minutes!
You will be guided by a simple PowerPoint presentation featuring an instructional video with two of our paramedics.
This could be a lunchtime activity, part of a regular meeting or an online catch up – all you need is some floor space, the kit and your hands.
