Did you know that one in five calls to triple zero do not need an emergency response? To make sure that you get the right care at the right place at the right time, you might be transferred through to our secondary triage team here at AV.
We have highly skilled nurses and paramedics working here who assess up to 900 calls per day.
When you call triple zero, the call taker may transfer you here to secondary triage. And this is before the ambulance is dispatched.
We'll get more information and we'll organize the care that you need. When you connect with our team, they will ask you further questions to understand your concerns.
They may provide you with other options such as non-emergency transport, the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department, non-emergency ambulances, GPS and pharmacists, urgent care clinics, safely treating conditions at home or self-presenting at hospital.
And if you do need an ambulance, they will request one.
We assess patients in a number of ways, over the phone, and we can also do video calls, too. So, if you're put through to our team, rest assured that they will work with you to get you the best care possible.
