Patient Tom Gray: I don't remember being hit. I just remember seeing everything was just crushed around me, and the glass was all shattered, and the windscreen was all smashed.
Paramedic Josh Arundale: Tom was obviously critically unwell when ambulances first arrived, and they were able to work alongside police and rescue to get Tom out of the car, and then stabilized in the ambulance, and then put to sleep in an induced coma so that they could protect his airway and keep him stable. Their care was exceptional, and along with that, their early activation of HEMS gave him the opportunity to get to hospital in a condition where he could have that life-saving surgery to repair the injuries.
Patient Tom Gray: Broke my neck, my C5, 10 broken ribs, a lacerated spleen, liver, an aneurysm on my aorta, and they had to do heart surgery. So I've started physio, just started back in the gym again. So trying to build myself back up.
Paramedic Josh Arundale: He's up and about, and quite surprisingly with how significant injuries he had. It's awesome to see him in such good spirits and recovered. Yeah, it's great.
Patient Tom Gray: I'm so grateful I can show my gratitude, and they saved my life, so just can't thank them enough, and especially my family. Myself and my family are extremely grateful and appreciative.
