Clear and visible property numbers can save lives.

Help emergency services find you quickly

Minutes count in life-threatening situations. If your property number is not visible from the road, then it is harder for paramedics to find you. By making sure your property number can be seen clearly from the street, you are helping us reach you faster.

Paramedics often respond to emergencies on properties with inaccurate, unclear or missing property numbers.

If possible you should send someone outside to meet the ambulance. They should wave the ambulance down, and then take first responders to the patient.

Making your property more identifiable

To ensure your property number is visible

  • check that your property number is correct, and is easy to read
  • trim any plants or trees that block the view
  • use a reflective number to ensure your number is visible at daytime or nightitme
  • test the visibility by walking or driving past your home in both directions.

If you live on a farm or rural property, you may also need to

  • ensure the direction from the main road is signposted
  • ensure that the main point of entry to the property is well marked.
