Two Ambulance Victoria initiatives have been recognised as finalists at the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards, highlighting excellence in patient care.
Ambulance Victoria was a finalist in the Excellence in Value-Based Healthcare category for the Patient Management Team Improved Model of Care, as well as the Partnering in Healthcare category for the Embedded Emergency Physician Model in collaboration with Northern Health's Virtual Emergency Department (VED).
The Victorian Public Healthcare Awards are judged by an independent panel of industry experts and showcase the dedication and ingenuity of healthcare professionals across the state.
Ambulance Victoria’s Patient Management Team Improved Model of Care is designed to support some of Ambulance Victoria’s most vulnerable patients, including frequent callers with complex healthcare needs, to access the best care option for their situation.
This model helps connect frequent and complex callers to the care that they need while keeping emergency ambulances available for patients who require life-saving care, ensuring more paramedics are available to respond to time-critical emergencies.
Ambulance Victoria Patient Management Lead Ella Soydas said it was very rewarding to see the model recognised by industry leaders.
“Being recognised as a finalist in the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards is a wonderful reflection of the expertise and dedication of the Patient Management Team,” Ella said.
“This recognition belongs to the people behind the work, whose commitment in navigating complex health and social systems has improved the care we provide patients, supported the wider workforce and substantially reduced the impact on operational resourcing.”
The VED and Ambulance Victoria collaboration, Embedded Emergency Physician Model, has improved patients’ access to the right care by connecting patients with emergency physicians as part of Ambulance Victoria's triage process. It connects patients and paramedics with timely clinical advice and helps patients access the most appropriate care.
Ambulance Victoria Manager Alternate Services and Care Pathways Nicole Magnuson said the initiative was making a real difference to patient care.
“Not only are we creating more connected care for patients, we are also building lasting relationships across services, bringing great minds together and creating new opportunities to continue improving and reimagining healthcare in the future,” Nicole said.
“This is recognition for everyone at Ambulance Victoria who has contributed to the success of the model, and our valued colleagues at VED.
“The success of this model reflects the collective passion, commitment, and collaboration of so many people who have come together with a shared goal of delivering the best possible care for our patients.”
Wednesday night’s awards also celebrated 19 Ambulance Victoria auxiliary members inducted into the Health Volunteer Honour Roll. Each has dedicated more than 30 years to serving their local community.
Ambulance Victoria auxiliaries play a vital role in providing their local branches and communities with additional specialised equipment and education, as well as fundraising and increasing awareness of Ambulance Victoria and the work of its people.
We thank each member for their longstanding commitment to supporting Ambulance Victoria and the time and care they have given over many decades.
Ambulance Victoria CEO Jordan Emery congratulated everyone recognised at the awards.
“This recognition means so much because it celebrates work that is genuinely changing lives,” Jordan said.
“Behind these initiatives are passionate clinicians, support staff and partners who go above and beyond for their communities every day. I'm incredibly proud of what they have achieved and thankful for the difference they're making for Victorians when they need care most.”
Congratulations to everyone involved in these initiatives and our dedicated auxiliary members.
