Ambulance Stretcher Vehicles

Ambulance Victoria has a fleet of more than 300 stretcher ambulances. These are mainly Mercedes Benz 316 Sprinters but we also use Ford 350’s, Mercedes Benz 315’s and the Volkswagen Transporter as stretcher ambulances.

For paramedics, the ambulance is their office so we put a lot of work in making sure that it is the best fit for their work. This includes a custom built cabin allowing paramedics to have quick access to medical supplies while they are treating a patient on the ambulance stretcher.

The stretcher ambulance fleet is built around safety for both the paramedic and the patient. This has seen the inclusion of modern vehicle safety principles such as side airbag, electronic stability control and many other features.

In addition, the Mercedes Benz is the most environmentally friendly ambulance on the market, meaning we can care not only for our patients but also the environment. This also leads to reduced running costs making them a cost effective vehicle.

We have a number of four wheel drive all-terrain vehicles capable of use as a stretcher ambulance. These are used to go off-road to reach patients in remote areas and are strategically placed in areas where there is sometimes a need to travel along bush and fire tracks.

All of these stretcher ambulances are fully stocked with the latest medical equipment and supplies including defibrillators, spine and neck collars, medical supplies, oxygen, medical drugs and radio communications.

A fully stocked stretcher ambulance costs around $150,000.
