In built-up suburban areas we use single responder paramedics as a way to overcome traffic and increase our spread of Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedics.
These vehicles are not designed for transporting patients, however they provide a quick and convenient way for MICA paramedics to respond to cases and provide clinical back up to other paramedics. A single responder paramedic is never sent to a case alone and is always backed up by at least two ambulance paramedics in a stretcher ambulance.
Our single responders use a variety of vehicles, but the Ford Territory is the most common. Single responder paramedics can also work out of a sedan such as a Holden Commodore or Ford Falcon.
