Paramedic Skills & Requirements

There is no mould as to what makes a good paramedic, however there are certain attributes and requirements that consistently appear in our paramedics.

There are key selection criteria that applicants must have prior to applying to be a paramedic.

All applicants must be Australian Citizens, NZ Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents or the holder of a full unrestricted Working Rights Visa. A full Victoria drivers licence OR a probationary licence where the holder has held a P2 licence for at least one year is the standard requirement for employment as an operational paramedic within Ambulance Victoria.

To apply as a qualified paramedic you must hold a recognised paramedic studies degree and/or suitable experience.

To apply as a graduate paramedic you must be in your final year of a recognised university course.

The following attributes also contribute to what makes a good paramedic:

  • The ability to follow instructions and guidelines

  • Clear decision making and judgement skills
