Approaching an emergency

If you see a medical emergency, any help you can provide is of great assistance. No matter what the emergency, your approach should always be the same – DRSABCD.

Danger: Check for danger

R

Response: Check if responsive, if not then call 000

S

Send for Help

A

Airway: Open airway, look for signs of life

B

Breaths: Give two initial breaths if not breathing properly

C

Compressions: Give 30 chest compressions (2 per second), followed by two breaths

CONTINUE CARDIO PULMONARY RESUSCITATION UNTIL QUALIFIED PERSONNEL ARRIVE OR SIGNS OF LIFE RETURN

Defibrillator: Attach defibrillator (if available) as soon as possible and follow its prompts
