CPR Program - How to do CPR

4 Steps for Life

The 4 Steps for Life are easier than you think:

You'll be surprised at how little you have to know to save a life. The 4 Steps for Life are:

  1. Call triple zero (000) for an ambulance
  2. Open the airway
  3. Breathe mouth to mouth
  4. Pump the chest

The 4 Steps for Life adds the first critical step of calling for an ambulance.

Who is it for?

4 Steps for Life was designed for enjoyable, effective group awareness. It's FREE to any group or club with any members over age 50, such as:

  • Service clubs
  • Community centres
  • Art, music and church groups
  • Sports clubs
  • Community Health Centres
  • Neighbourhood Watch groups
  • Walking or cultural groups
  • Retirement/seniors clubs
  • Volunteers
  • Neighbourhood houses
  • Any informal/social group of friends

All we ask is that you are willing to arrange a venue and a TV and video or DVD player and encourage as many members as possible to attend. No training is required to run the 4 Steps for Life session - just your enthusiasm to share this vital information.

CPR Kits

What is the program?

The 4 Steps for Life program is based on international research which provides evidence that self-instruction, using television or video can be as effective as classroom based CPR training programs and that retention is further assisted by simplification of the training to the four critical steps required to effectively assist a person in cardiac arrest.

In your 4 Steps for Life group kit you receive:

  • A 20 minute video and a DVD which guides a session.
  • A set of Pillow Pals – practice aids that let everyone participate without manikins.
  • A written CPR Champion guide to help you organise a session.
  • Fridge magnets and frequently asked questions sheets for every participant to help them remember the 4 Steps for Life at home.
  • Evaluation forms to help us with program development.

Personal Packs

If you are not part of a club or group or simply would like your own mini kit for yourself you can order a Personal Pack for the cost price of $20. Your 4 Steps for Life Personal Pack comes in a sturdy plastic storage box and includes:
