Calling 000 [triple zero]

In the case of an emergency dial 000 [triple zero] and ask for ambulance.

When dialling triple zero for an ambulance it is helpful to be ready to answer the following questions:

  • what is the exact location of the emergency?
  • what is the phone number you are calling from?
  • what is the problem, what exactly happened?
  • how many people are hurt?
  • how old is the person?
  • is the person conscious (awake)?
  • is the person breathing?

Do not hang up. Follow the instructions offered by the emergency services calltaker as the ambulance responds. These will help the patient and the ambulance paramedics.

As soon as we have the location and type of emergency, an ambulance will be dispatched by a separate person. The additional questions help us to prioritise your request promptly and determine whether the patient requires additional services such as more ambulances, Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedic skills or other services.

Further questions may be necessary.
