National statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007)
This statement is the NHMRC guidelines upon which Human research Ethics Committees base their decision to approve or decline research projects. The document has a specific section on patients highly dependent on medical care (See Chapter 4.4 page 61-63), and the requirement for consent to participate in research (chapter 2.3 page 23-24). There is also a useful section on the ethics of using databanks for research purposes (Chapter 3.2 page 29-31).
