Advanced life support paramedics from Bacchus Marsh, intensive care paramedics from Deer Park and an ambulance helicopter were called to the intersection of Parwan-Exford Road and Telephone Road at Parwan just after seven o’clock.
Paramedic Team Manager John Faulkner says the first crew arrived within 11 minutes to find the car on its side.
‘The car was extensively damaged when it rolled and came to rest on its side against a tree,’ he said.
‘The 35-year-old woman’s arm and leg were pushed through the car window and were pinned between the vehicle and the ground, trapping her in the wreckage.
‘She suffered a fractured leg, serious injuries to her arm and possibly a fractured pelvis.
‘Paramedics treated and reassured the woman who remained conscious throughout the 90-minute rescue operation to free her.
‘She was given a large amount of pain relief through a drip, as well as fluids to help maintain her blood pressure.
‘A neck brace was put on to support her neck given the potential for spinal injuries.
‘Rescue units used air bags to lift up the car so the woman could be dragged clear.
‘The ambulance helicopter landed on the road and the woman was flown to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition,’ Mr Faulkner said.
