Car rolls over woman

22 Oct 2009

A woman was lucky to escape serious injury when her car rolled over the top of her in her driveway in Eltham North this afternoon.

Advanced life support paramedics from Templestowe and Diamond Creek and intensive care paramedics from Ivanhoe were called to the home at 1.50pm.

Advanced life support paramedic Rob Heaslip said they arrived within nine minutes to find the woman trapped under the car.

‘The car had rolled down the driveway over her, forcing her into a garden bed and trapping her from the waist down,’ he said.

‘The MFB and SES helped stabilise the car while we removed sections of the garden bed to reach her.

‘The 61-year-old woman suffered some cuts and grazes to her legs but luckily escaped serious injury.

‘We moved her onto a spine board and slid her out from under the car.

‘She was treated with pain relief through an inhaler and we put a drip in her arm and gave her some fluids to help stabilise her condition.

‘She was taken to the Austin Hospital in a stable condition.’
