A woman was bitten by a snake while walking in a park at Carnlea last night.
Intensive care paramedics from Deer Park and Advanced life support paramedics from Delahey were called to the woman’s home just before seven o’clock.
Advanced life support paramedic Daniel Gebeyehu says the first crew arrived within five minutes.
‘The 47 year-old woman was bitten on a toe while walking in a park with a friend,’ he said.
‘She made her way home and called an ambulance.
‘The woman had two distinct marks that appeared to be fang marks on her toe, was sweating, had nausea and pain in her lower leg.
‘A pressure bandage was applied from the woman’s toe up to the top of her leg, and her leg was immobilised.
'The woman was given oxygen while an ECG monitor was used to check her heart.
‘It’s important for people to remain calm and still after a snake bite, and get help to come to them,’ Mr Gebeyehu said.
The woman was taken to Sunshine Hospital in a stable condition.
