Road worker injured after being struck by car

19 Oct 2009

A road worker is in a serious condition after being hit by a car in a road works area this morning.

Advanced life support paramedics from Jackson’s Creek were called to Derby Street in Pascoe Vale at 11.40am.

Paramedic Chris Collard said they arrived within six minutes to find the man lying on the road being helped by an off duty nurse.

‘It appeared the car had been driven into the road works area and hit the man,’ he said.

‘The 33-year-old man suffered a head injury, deep cut to the back of his head and some leg pain.

‘Given the potential for a spinal injury we fitted a neck brace to the man.

‘We put a drip in his arm and gave him pain relief and fluids to help stabilise his condition.

‘He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

‘We encourage drivers to slow down while driving through road works, obey the signs and be wary of the workers on the road.’
