An Ambulance Victoria paramedic has been stung while treating a man who was having a severe allergic reaction to a bee sting at Nunawading.
Intensive care paramedics from Box Hill and advanced life support paramedics were called to a house just before 11 o’clock this morning.
Intensive care paramedic Michael Benjamin says a 47 year-old man was stung a number of times on the face and neck while outside.
‘The man had been moved into the bathroom and was with his wife who understandably was quite upset,’ he said.
‘We had to calm them both down so we could treat the man who had been stung a number of times and was semi-conscious.
‘He was having a severe allergic reaction and the major concern is that the airway can swell making it difficult to breathe so we gave him some he adrenaline to stop the swelling.
‘He had very low blood pressure and was also given some fluid through a drip in his arm, and some steroids.
‘The man was taken to Box Hill hospital in a stable condition.
‘One of the hazards of attending a bee sting case is you can be stung and that happened to one of the paramedics. Thankfully he didn’t have an allergic reaction,’ Mr Benjamin said.
