Two motorcyclists have spent the night injured in the bush, after an accident in the Toolangi State Forest late yesterday.
The men were injured while riding their motorcycles at about five o’clock.
Advanced life support paramedics from Healesville, intensive care paramedics from Ringwood East and an ambulance helicopter were called to Toolangi just before ten o’clock this morning.
Intensive care flight paramedic Colin Carty says the two 19 year-old men were thrown into the bush when they crashed on a bend.
‘The 19 year-old men rounded a bend and lost control, crashing into the bush,’ he said.
‘One of the men was thrown into a tree suffering breaks to both legs, and possibly his pelvis.
‘He also lost consciousness for a period.
‘The other man was found about 30 metres into the bush.
‘We understand a search was mounted last night, and they were located this morning.
‘Both were given a significant amount of pain relief through a drip, and fluids to maintain a stable blood pressure.
‘Their injured legs had splints fitted, and they were taken in an ambulance from the bush to the waiting helicopter.
‘The men have been flown to the Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.
‘Both riders had full leathers and armours and helmets that trail riders wear in the bush,’ he said.
‘The man who was thrown into a tree was trapped against the tree, and if he didn’t have the protective armour, his injuries would have been more severe.
‘The clothing also kept them warm and they were able to survive the night quite well.
’They were some distance from each other, but kept in contact by yelling to each other during the night,’ Mr Carty said.
