Ambulance Victoria paramedics have treated a man who was injured in a crash at Bayswater this morning.
Advanced life support paramedics from Wantirna and intensive care paramedics from Ringwood East were called to Pindari Drive just before one o’clock.
A man aged about 30 was injured when the car he was driving slammed into a parked car.
Intensive care paramedic David Bedford-Lee says the car was extensively damaged.
‘The side of the car was pushed in, and the man was unable to open the driver’s door,’ he said.
‘He suffered head injuries, collapsed lungs, a fractured arm, and internal injuries.
‘Intensive care paramedics performed a procedure where a large needle was inserted into both sides of the man’s chest to clear trapped air and reinflate his lungs
‘His breathing improved, and his blood pressure stabilised.
‘While this was being done, SES volunteers worked to remove the vehicle’s door so the man could be taken out of the car.
‘The man was given a large amount of fluid through a drip to help maintain his blood pressure.
‘He was also given pain relief and drugs to reduce nausea.
‘The man was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition,’ Mr Bedford-Lee said.
