Man falls off roof while helping mate

27 Oct 2009

Ambulance Victoria paramedics have treated a man after he fell nearly two metres off a roof in Essendon West this afternoon.

Advanced life support paramedics from Essendon and intensive care paramedics from Coburg were called to the house at 1pm.

Advanced life support paramedic Wendy Morrow said they arrived within eight minutes to find the man lying on the concrete.

‘He was helping a friend with some maintenance on the roof when it crumbled away and he fell to the ground,’ she said.

‘The 65-year-old man suffered a suspected fractured skull and suspected fractured ribs.

‘Given the potential for a spinal injury we fitted a neck brace to the man.

‘He was in a significant amount of pain so we treated him with pain relief through an inhaler.

‘We then put a drip in his arm and gave him some stronger pain relief.

‘He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.’
