Ambulance Victoria paramedics have treated eight people injured in an explosion at Hawthorn this evening.
Three intensive care ambulances and three advanced life support ambulances were called to a block of units just after five o’clock.
Ambulance Victoria Health Commander Justin Dunlop says the first crew arrived within six minutes to a chaotic scene.
‘They were directed to a number of people suffering injuries ranging from burns to cuts and abrasions,’ he said.
‘A 37 year-old man and a 30 year-old woman both suffered burns to about 40 percent of their bodies.
‘Both were in a significant amount of pain.
‘Paramedics gave them a large amount of pain relief, and fluids through a drip.
‘They were taken to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition, and both are lucky to be alive.
‘We also treated a 22 year old woman who had a cut to the back and abrasions to her hands, and a 23 year old man who had a cut to the side of his head. They were both taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition,’ Mr Dunlop said.
Four other people who had abrasions were checked by paramedics, but didn’t go to hospital;
