Paramedics treated a man at Merricks yesterday after an incident involving a ride-on lawnmower.
Advanced life support paramedics from Mornington were called to the scene just before 1pm.
Paramedic Tamara Wood said that the 55-year-old man was in severe pain.
‘He told us that he was trying to manoeuvre the lawn mower underneath a tree when he became wedged under one of the tree’s lower branches.
‘He said that he bent forward so that he wouldn’t hit his head, but instead became further wedged, and said that’s when he heard a loud crunching noise in the middle section of his back.
‘He managed to free himself and called for help from bystanders.
‘During the assessment he described the pain in his back as the worst he’d ever felt.
‘He was also short of breath, so we also gave him oxygen through a mask to assist his breathing.
‘We gave him pain relief through an inhaler and then through a drip in his arm.
‘Because of the potential for him to have suffered a spinal injury, we him in a neck brace and equipment was used to keep his body still and straight on the stretcher.
‘He was then taken to Frankston Hospital in a stable condition,’ Ms Wood said.
