Paramedics treated a man at a Coburg workplace this morning after he was slashed by a piece of sheet metal.
Advanced life support paramedics from Preston and a single responder intensive care paramedic were called to the scene just after 11.30 and the first crew arrived six minutes after the emergency call was made.
Paramedic Huw Colechin said that when they arrived they found the 53-year-old man being cared for by colleagues who were providing first-aid.
‘A piece of metal had been ejected from a machine, at high speed, leaving him with significant injuries to his neck and chest.
‘Due to the location of major arteries and organs, there was the potential for serious complications.
‘Colleagues had acted very quickly to apply direct pressure to his wounds to prevent further blood loss.
‘He was surprisingly calm considering his injuries.
‘We gave him pain relief and he was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for further treatment,’ Mr Colechin said.
