A man was burnt to the face, neck and hands in an industrial accident in Laverton North this morning.
The 41 year-old man was injured while trying to unblock a pipe at a factory just before four o’clock.
Intensive care paramedic Andrew Lougheed said the man was sprayed with a boiling hot liquid.
‘The man was standing on a ladder working to unblock a pipe,’ Mr Lougheed said.
‘It appears the ladder slipped and a pressure valve was torn from the pipe.
‘The man was sprayed with a liquid called tallow which is a mix of fat and water, heated to 140-degrees.
‘He has serious burns to his face, neck and arms.
‘His colleagues put the man in the shower to help cool the burns before we arrived.
‘The man needed a significant amount of pain relief and we put a special gel-covered dressing on the burns.
‘He was taken to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition,’ Mr Lougheed said.
