Two people are in hospital with serious burns when fuel caught fire at Lake Eildon this morning.
Paramedics and ambulance helicopters were called to Lake Eildon at 10.12am.
‘A couple aged in their 50s were refuelling their houseboat when somehow the fuel ignited,’ said MICA Flight Paramedic Shaun Whitmore.
‘They suffered serious burns to their face, hands and neck and the woman received airway burns.
‘Burns dressings which have a special cooling gel in them were applied to their wounds to help with the pain.
‘The woman was given anaesthetic drugs to place her into a coma so that paramedics could take over her breathing, prevent her airways from closing over due to the burns.
‘Both were flown to The Alfred hospital – the woman in a critical but stable condition and the man serious but stable.’
