Paramedics treated a man at Brunswick yesterday after he sustained serious injuries to his right foot.
Advanced life support paramedics were called to the scene just before 5pm.
Paramedic Robyn Dawes said that when they arrived they found the 42-year-old had suffered deep wounds to his big and little toes.
‘He told us that he had been helping a friend, who was cutting wood with a chainsaw, when his foot came into contact with it.
‘He had significant bleeding that we were able to control before cleaning dirt from the wound and bandaging it with a moist dressing.
‘He told us that he started feeling dizzy so we lay him down and elevated his legs, which made him feel better.
‘A drip was then used to give him pain relief and he was taken to St Vincent’s hospital in a stable condition.
‘I would urge anyone working with or near tools like chainsaws to make sure that you’re wearing sturdy, closed shoes,’ Ms Dawes said.
