Ambulance Victoria paramedics record patient information electronically using a tablet computer on a system called VACIS.

By collecting data for all emergency incidents and coding it in such a way that it is consistent, VACIS paves the way for research.

Ambulance Victoria is part of the VACIS collaboration and has been a leader in its development.  Ambulance services in New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and the ACT also use VACIS.

VACIS provides:

  • An evidence base to clinical practice
  • Data to measure levels of clinical procedure and guideline compliance amongst paramedics
  • Valid and consistent patient data, from call to discharge, for ambulance led clinical research across four states and one territory.
